Meet Madame Curie, the talented border collie who knows her toys’ names and how to put them away in their basket, after a fulsome day of training and play. Curie knows the names of over 30 of her toys and household objects, and where they belong before nap time! (See her video below)
Named for two-time Nobel Prize winning scientist, Marie Curie, Border Collie Curie is happy to live up to the genius of her namesake. Curie is also adept at finding misplaced objects, such as cell phones and house keys. When Amanda says, “Curie, find my phone,” she becomes “psychic” and locates it within a few seconds of the request. Ever gentle, she places a paw on the lost object for her owner to retrieve it, unscathed.
How does she do it? Dogs can hear the sounds emitted by resting or idle cell phones, because they can hear in frequencies of up to 45,000 Hz to 60,000 Hz. In contrast, human hearing is generally restricted to an upper limit of 20,000 Hz.

More Than Just a Cheeky Border Collie
Brains and Beauty! Curie is a four year old AKC registered Border Collie, with a number of AKC performance titles under her belt. She has earned numerous trick dog, scent work, agility and rally titles, as well as her AKC Championship. In this video, Curie and her owner, Amanda, demonstrate her knowledge of her toys names and where they belong at the end of playtime.
Each toy gets an extra, good-time shake before she says goodbye to it and drops it in the toy basket. In the evenings, Curie is especially vigilant when she is dispatched into the backyard to patrol for The Boogie Man. Curie maintains a tidy home inside and out, free of clutter and Boogie Men! Now if she could just sweep the floors of any stray hairs, life in Indiana would be flawless.
