Raylan, a Lab hunting dog mix, is melting hearts across the Internet, by going above and beyond in caring for four partially blind kittens. Initially, his owner brought the kittens home to foster, thinking he would be doing all of the work himself. Little did he know that his male dog would take on the role of foster Dad and Mom! Raylan isn’t just tolerant of kittens crawling over him, he is actively cleaning and caring for them. Surprisingly, just like a mother cat would with her own litter. Scroll on to see the video of Raylan the kitten’s Foster Mom and Dad in action.
How Can a Dog Care for Kittens as a Foster Mom?
Somehow, Raylan instinctively knew how to care for kittens. He probably remembers how his own mother cared for him. Raylan carefully removes the kittens from their crate, carries them to the sofa, and cleans them thoroughly with his oversized tongue, after each one finishes its meal. Not only that, he happily tolerates them kneading his tummy just like they would if they were nursing on their real momma cat!
Cat and dog mothers frequently move their babies by gently picking them up in their mouths, but male dogs rarely get in on the act of moving their own pups around. In fact, the mothers would hardly tolerate seeing a male put their baby in his mouth. Nevertheless, Raylan and the kittens are purrfectly happy with their new arrangement!
Kittens Playing with Dogs!
The kittens are delighted to have a giant new momma, as you can clearly see in the video. Indeed, they seem to have imprinted on Raylan. Moreover, they play with his tail and sleep with him on the sofa, just like they would with their real mother.
Cats and Dogs Sleeping Together?
In the film, Ghost Busters, Bill Murray’s character suggests that cats and dogs sleeping together would signal the end of civilization as we know it. Apparently that is not the case. These kittens and Raylan have broken the myth that cats and dogs are like oil and water. Viewers of the video are smitten. Checkout their comments below.

How Can Visually Impaired Kittens Find Foster Mom, Raylan, on Their Own
Just like Kyra, the blind cat, these kittens use their hearing, sense of smell, and even their whiskers to navigate the household objects and find their foster mother. They may be more cautious and move a little more slowly than your average normal kitten, but as you can see, they are still very active and playful with Raylan’s tail, even if they can’t really see it.
Raylan and the kittens really do prove, that love overcomes all barriers!
